Robinb Hood's Bay - winter dawn

Finally we got some proper weather this week as the wind switched to the North East. Lots of lovely wintry showers, but unfortunately no heavy lying snow. I've been hiding indoors for the last couple of months so it was fantastic to get the bike out and hack about in the sleet. I think this Robin Hood's bay picture says it all.


Blustery dawn at Saltic Bay


On easter weekend I've got an exhibition at the Grosmont Gallery. In preparation I'm going to do a series of spring woodland pictures playing with the sunlight breaking through the trees. I've still got some tinkering to do with this one but I still like it.

As for the previous Bamburgh Castle picture the picture fairy didn't come, it's dull but can be saved.

Skye, looks like rain again

It has been a funny old week with too much framing delivering and tax returns. I still managed to squeeze in a couple though. I walked away in disgust from this one of Skye feeling completely useless only to find the next day the picture fairy had been. I don’t know what I’d do without her. All I need now is for her to come and sort this one out.

This one is of Bamburgh Castle, it was a lovely quiet dawn with an incredibly flat sea.
Sorry for the lack of videos, I've managed to completely fill my hard drive up. Normal service will hopefully resume next week.

Frosty morning on Egton Bank

I've always liked this view and have driven down this road so many times. This picture is of the road going down Egton Bank to Grosmont on a very frosty morning. I just love the way the cold icy blues contrast against the warm orange light of the sky and the wet road. As for whether it's a good picture or not I haven't got a clue, hopefully the picture fairy will come and sprinkle her magic picture dust on it over the next few days.

Skye sunset

This is the sun setting over Skye with Eigg in front. This was a great little trip on a friends fishing boat that he needed delivering from Oban to Fraserburgh. Wouldn't it be fantastic to have a boat for a studio and just chug about in beautiful places.

Fryup Dale triptych

We had some lovely frosty weather here before Christmas when the rest of the country was blanketed in fog. This triptych is of Little Fryup Dale just as the sun came up on the left. I painted this by clamping three cansases together, painting the picture as one and then carefully cutting and separating them.
