I'm working at the gallery now and am struggling to find a way of taking a decent photo. We had a lovely period of snow the other week and this is the result.

As ever I've been neglecting the blog, but here at last is a cracker. It's loosely based on a little spot in Falling Foss woods. I've been painting it in the gallery and it's been warmly received.

Ruswarp mill

Somehow it feels like cheating when you have such a beautiful scene just 200 yards from the house. This is the mill at Ruswarp on a hazy morning from just above the weir. I had originally wanted to put moored boats in the foreground ( or should that be forewater) but this would have detracted from the peaceful mood of the picture.

Slightly different angle on Whitby

I came back after a early dawn at Robin Hood's Bay to find Whitby being soaked in a warm glow. I like this view and might try it again without the buildings in the foreground.

Spring has sprung

This is the Mirk Esk behind Grosmont Engine sheds and I've awarded myself a gold star. Well worth the wet feet.

Key boards aren't waterproof

I discovered last week that keyboards much prefer being covered in oil paint to having water poured into them, hence the late posting of these two pictures. The last couple of weeks have been fantastic and the canvases are flying out the door and I think the watercolours will have to go on hold for now.

I'm getting a lot of requests for Robing Hood's Bay and Whitby pictures so expect more of these in the next few weeks.

Watercolours

Back in the Jurassic I started out painting in Watercolours. I've found it extremely hard to get back into but I'm getting there, I not going to post the early attempts though. Having made the move into Whitby I'm finding myself wanting to paint smaller scenes and to paint out in the fresh air (if you discount the smell of fish and chips).

Spring is sprung

We've had a lovely warm week here in Yorkshire and spring is well on the way. This painting is my impression of what the woods near Grosmont will look like in a couple of weeks (I couldn't wait).

Moorland sunset

I'm really getting into this new technique. Here is a close up to give you a better idea.

First week back in the studio

The summer season has begun in Whitby allowing me to escape the gallery. To celebrate I've done a heavily textured painting. It's a style I'm really enjoying, it prevents me getting hung up on detail and forces me to concentrate on colour. The texture also adds another dimension that I fine almost hypnotic, unfortunately it's almost impossible to get a decent photo.

Glaisedale commission

Here's a little one of Glaisedale I knocked off in a spare moment.

Sorry

I would like to apologize for the lack of posts over the winter. This has been due to me working in the gallery and I simply ran out of time. Normal service will hopefully resume at Easter.
